How Your Hot Tub Can Improve Your Workout Sessions

Your hot tub is probably your favorite place to unwind and relax after a stressful workday, but if you’re not also using it as a part of your fitness routine, you’re missing out! That’s right, your hot tub can improve your workout sessions. Here’s how!

Pre-Workout

You surely already know the importance of stretching and warming up before jumping into a strenuous workout, but did you know that taking a soak in your hot tub before your workout can make your stretches more effective, thereby improving your workout? Doing so gets your blood pumping, increases your circulation and limbers up your joints and muscles. The Mayo Clinic recommends stretching when your muscles are warm, not cold, to prevent injuries. Is there any more enjoyable way to warm them than with a soak in your hot tub?!

Post-Workout

The best time to get in your soak after working out is 24-48 hours later. That’s when Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS) will have set in and you might be looking for relief from some soreness. The warmth and buoyancy of your hot tub will relieve tension and increase circulation to repair muscles faster, while the jets will give you the massage you’re craving.

Additionally, soaking in a hot tub helps you sleep better. Sleep is important in helping you reap the benefits of your workout because while you sleep, your body makes natural muscle-building chemicals (like human growth hormone). Your body requires enough sleep to complete the process, though. So, if you aren’t getting at least 7 hours of sleep, try soaking in your hot tub 90 minutes before bed. It will help you fall asleep faster and sleep better.

To reap all the health benefits of hot-tubbing, including how it helps improve your workout sessions, don’t rely on a public hot tub at your gym. Enjoy the freedom to take a private soak anytime you want by owning your own spa! Come in and let us help you find the ideal spa for your needs, or download our Hot Tub Buyer’s Guide to learn more.
